What the evidence shows
Several long-term U.S. air pollutants continued declining during the term, and U.S. air and drinking-water access compare favorably worldwide. But cross-country datasets do not establish the U.S. as unambiguously cleanest; some air indicators worsened in parts of the period, and “cleanest water” depends on the measure. Trump’s own EPA used the narrower phrase “among the cleanest” for drinking water while claiming “cleanest air on record.” See the EPA 2019 fact sheet and FactCheck.org’s measure-by-measure analysis.
Misleading. Favorable and improving measures do not substantiate the sweeping global superlatives or sole attribution to one administration.
