Trump described Katie Zacharia as an attorney

FalseStatement: 2026-10-09Record reviewed: 2026-10-17

Statement and context

an attorney

October 9, 2026, Truth Social appointment announcement; excerpt reported by ABC News, AP and Popular Information.

What the evidence shows

Zacharia acknowledged in an October 15 interview that she had not passed the bar exam. Popular Information's search found no admission in any U.S. state or D.C.; the White House supplied no licensing evidence. She has a Pepperdine law degree and cited work in China, but those facts do not establish admission as an attorney. She herself distinguished the label lawyer from attorney at law.

The attorney credential is the proposition assessed. This does not dispute her law degree or establish intent to deceive, and is not a finding of unlawful practice.
