Biden ended U.S. “energy independence”

“We were energy independent.” The contrast in context was that the United States no longer was under Biden.

What the evidence shows
“Energy independence” has no single official definition. Under the common net-trade measure, the United States became a net total-energy exporter in 2019 and remained one in every subsequent year through 2024. Total U.S. energy production and crude-oil production reached records in 2023 and again in 2024.
Misleading. The first-term net-export milestone is real; implying that it ended under Biden is contradicted by EIA data.
