What the evidence shows
DOGE’s $160 billion at the time was an “estimated savings” total spanning contract and grant cancellations, workforce changes, regulatory changes, asset sales, programmatic changes, and other categories. A canceled ceiling is not necessarily money that would have been spent, and “waste” is not synonymous with legally established fraud. GAO later found material errors and missing support in the receipt categories it audited; it did not validate $160 billion in fraud.
False. The underlying DOGE number was not a finding of $160 billion in fraud, and later audit evidence did not substantiate the full savings total.
