What the evidence shows
Trump’s April 2025 ABC interviewer accurately noted that “the original promise was $2 trillion, went to $1 trillion”; Trump answered by claiming $150 billion saved. DOGE’s final Wall of Receipts update was January 1, 2026, and GAO reported $110 billion in claimed contract, grant, and lease savings as of July 7, 2026, with significant verification problems. Even DOGE’s broader claimed total was far below $2 trillion.
False. As the savings expectation Trump presented for his planned government-efficiency effort, it was not achieved; it should not be presented as a $2 trillion saving delivered by the administration.
