Zohran Mamdani’s 2025 platform was communist

His mayoral proposals did not call for eliminating private ownership or competitive parties. PolitiFact distinguished democratic socialism from communism and noted uncertainty about the significance of older remarks.

Border encounters fell about 95% in Trump’s first 100 days

CBP reported 7,181 southwest-border apprehensions between ports in March 2025, down about 95% from 137,480 in March 2024. The percentage depends on the chosen dates and whether “encounters” includes ports of entry, but the administration’s comparison accurately described the order of magnitude of the fall in illegal crossings. Causation is harder to allocate: the decline began after Biden’s June 2024 restrictions and Mexican enforcement, then accelerated sharply after Trump’s return and new deterrence measures.

Reduced cargo traffic means the U.S. loses less money

Imports deliver goods in exchange for payment, rather than representing a pure loss. A slowdown can harm port and transport jobs, disrupt supplies and increase consumer costs.

DOGE found “$160 billion worth of fraud, waste, and abuse”

DOGE’s $160 billion at the time was an “estimated savings” total spanning contract and grant cancellations, workforce changes, regulatory changes, asset sales, programmatic changes, and other categories. A canceled ceiling is not necessarily money that would have been spent, and “waste” is not synonymous with legally established fraud. GAO later found material errors and missing support in the receipt categories it audited; it did not validate $160 billion in fraud.

DOGE had saved $150 billion by the first 100 days

The $150 billion was DOGE’s own top-line estimate, not an audited reduction in outlays. In August 2026, GAO reviewed DOGE’s Wall of Receipts and found that many estimates used undisclosed or inconsistent methods, 96% of reported grant savings lacked enough information to verify the method, some leases were already being phased out, and a reported $1.7 billion contract saving reflected a contract on which no reduction occurred. GAO reported that the Wall ultimately listed $110 billion for contracts, grants, and leases as of July 7, 2026, while noting that the larger top-line DOGE total included other categories.

“I went 4 years without inflation”

CPI-U increased in each full calendar year of Trump’s first term: 2.1% in 2017, 1.9% in 2018, 2.3% in 2019, and 1.4% in 2020 (December-to-December). Inflation was generally low, especially in the pandemic year, but it was not zero.

China made $1 trillion from U.S. trade in 2024

Chinese goods exports to the U.S. were about $439 billion; the bilateral goods deficit was about $295 billion. Neither measure approached $1 trillion.

TCT-FC-NAFTA-FACTORIESMisleading

Ninety thousand U.S. factories closed because of NAFTA

The cited census series showed a smaller net decline in manufacturing establishments, many very small. A net change does not count all closures, and it does not establish NAFTA as the cause.

Egg prices had fallen 50% by April 2, 2025

Wholesale egg prices had dropped sharply, but the latest retail data still showed high consumer prices. The claim omitted the difference between wholesale quotes and grocery-store prices.

Maduro directed Tren de Aragua’s migration and “irregular warfare” in the U.S.

A declassified National Intelligence Council assessment concluded that, although Venezuela’s permissive environment enables TdA and some mid- or low-level officials may have ties to members, the Maduro regime “probably does not have a policy of cooperating with TDA” and is not directing its movement to or operations in the United States. Most intelligence-community analysts found reporting of senior regime direction not credible without corroboration. FBI analysts agreed with the broad assessment but assessed that some Venezuelan officials facilitated members’ migration and might use proxies. That caveat supports concern about some official contacts, not the proclamation’s sweeping direction-and-invasion proposition.

Eliminating “fraud, waste and theft” would defeat inflation and lower mortgages, car payments and groceries

Lower federal deficits can, all else equal, reduce aggregate demand and long-term rate pressure. But mortgage rates also reflect expected inflation, Federal Reserve policy, Treasury yields, credit risk, and market conditions; grocery prices depend on commodity, labor, energy, weather, disease, trade and supply chains. No published administration estimate tied verified DOGE savings to the enumerated price reductions, and CBO later estimated the 2025 reconciliation law would increase deficits.

TCT-IMM-023Mostly accurate

February 2025 illegal crossings were “by far the lowest ever recorded”

February 2025 apprehensions between ports fell to about 8,300, the lowest monthly total in modern monthly data going back to 2000 and dramatically below February 2024. The absolute “ever” overreaches: the Border Patrol’s long annual series includes entire years in the 1920s and 1930s with totals close to the February 2025 monthly figure, and directly comparable monthly data do not extend through the whole century. The core contemporary-record claim is correct; the all-time superlative is not fully supportable.

Federal grants spent $8 million “making mice transgender”

The cited grants studied how hormone therapy, sex differences, or gender-affirming hormones affect HIV susceptibility, asthma and other health questions. “Transgenic” mice are genetically modified animals and are not synonymous with “transgender”; some public lists also conflated the terms. See the NIH RePORTER grant database and FactCheck.org’s grant-by-grant review.
